Build one rental-document folder

International students often have the right documents but not in a form that an agency can use quickly. Create one cloud folder with clear PDF filenames before the active search starts.

Documents commonly requested

  • Passport or EU identity card
  • University admission, enrollment or exchange confirmation
  • Codice Fiscale when required for contracting
  • Visa or residence-permit information where relevant
  • Guarantor passport/ID
  • Guarantor proof of income or tax documentation
  • Student contact details and current address
  • Any agency-specific application or privacy forms

Guarantor documents

Students without employment income are often assessed through a parent or other guarantor. Requirements vary: an agency may ask for payslips, tax returns, employment confirmation or bank evidence. Ask for the exact list early; do not send more sensitive financial information than is actually needed.

Non-EU students

If you enter Italy on a study visa, separate immigration procedures can apply after arrival. Housing documentation and immigration documentation are related in practical life but are not the same thing. Keep copies of your accommodation contract because it may be useful in administrative processes.

A clean file naming system

01_Passport_Name.pdf
02_University_Admission.pdf
03_Codice_Fiscale.pdf
04_Guarantor_ID.pdf
05_Guarantor_Income.pdf
06_Visa_or_Permit.pdf

A small organisational step can save hours when an agent asks for documentation on short notice.

FAQ

Do all landlords ask for the same documents?

No. The exact financial and administrative checks differ by owner, agency and contract.

Can I use foreign income documents?

Often yes, especially for a parent/guarantor, but the agency may ask for translations or additional evidence.

Should I send my passport to every listing contact?

No. Share identity documents only when there is a legitimate rental process and you understand who is receiving them.

What if I do not have a Codice Fiscale yet?

Ask the agency at what stage it becomes necessary and start the official request as early as possible.
